Panel Replacement — Johnson, Jackson & Wyandotte Counties

Electrical Panel Replacement in
Olathe & Kansas City Metro

If the breaker box is failed, unsafe, or obsolete — Federal Pacific, Zinsco, rusted, burned, or flagged by insurance — Spark Doc Electric replaces it. Same amperage or a 100A–200A upgrade if the house actually needs more power. Licensed, permits handled, 5-year warranty.

When the Panel Needs Replacing — Not Just More Amps

A panel upgrade is for houses that have outgrown 100-amp service. Replacement is different: the box itself is the problem. It may still be 200A and still be unsafe. Spark Doc Electric will tell you which job you actually have.

  • Federal Pacific Stab-Lok, Zinsco, Pushmatic, or Challenger panel
  • Insurance company will not write or renew a policy until the panel is replaced
  • Burn marks, melted bus, rust, or water damage inside the can
  • Breakers that will not reset, or that feel loose on the bus
  • Buzzing, crackling, or a burning smell at the panel
  • Old fuse box that should be a modern breaker panel
  • Cover that will not sit flush, missing knockouts, or exposed bus
  • Home sale, inspection, or lender flagged the equipment

Seeing sparks at the box? That is not a wait-and-see item. Read sparking panel or call the 24/7 line.

  • 5-year warranty on the work

Replacement or Upgrade?

Keep the same amperage if the service is already sized right and the can is the failure. Step up from 100A to 200A if you are adding an EV charger, heat pump, hot tub, or a home addition. That path lives on our panel upgrade page. One visit, honest call on which job it is.

Breakers that will not hold, odd outages, or a panel that is warm to the touch often start as troubleshooting — then we replace the box if that is what the diagnosis says.

Panel Replacement FAQ

What is the difference between panel replacement and a panel upgrade?
Replacement swaps a failed, unsafe, or obsolete panel — often at the same amperage. An upgrade increases capacity, typically 100A to 200A (or 400A) so the house can carry modern loads. Spark Doc Electric will not sell you more amps if the real issue is a bad can.
Do Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels have to be replaced?
Yes, we recommend it. Stab-Lok and Zinsco breakers are known to fail to trip under overload. Plenty of Johnson County and Kansas City insurers now require replacement before they will write a policy. That is a safety job, not a luxury upgrade.
Can you replace my panel without increasing the amperage?
Yes. If 200-amp service already fits the house, we replace the failed equipment and land the existing circuits. If you are still on 100A and adding load, we will talk through a 100A–200A upgrade instead.
How long does panel replacement take in the Kansas City metro?
Most residential replacements are a same-day job — typically 4–8 hours with the power off during the swap. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of the work.
Will you handle the permit and the city inspection?
Yes. Panel replacement requires a permit in Kansas and Missouri. Spark Doc Electric pulls it, does the work, and meets the inspector. Licensed, insured, based in Olathe.
